Greetings! How are you? We’ve been on the go non-stop after returning earlier this week from six full days exploring Denver, Boulder and the surrounding mountains with three generations of my husband’s family.

Flatirons Boulder

The natural focal point of Boulder is without a doubt the Flatirons — a striking rocky outcropping formed several hundred million years ago (above). Not only was our Airbnb rental only a few blocks each from the Chautauqua Park trailheads and bustling Pearl Street downtown, but the upstairs patio afforded an unbeatable view. We fully appreciated how blessed we were to briefly call this place home, and I spent each morning on that patio with a coffee, a book, and the resident broad-tailed hummingbirds.

Every day we hiked — to stunning and impressive vistas in the Flatirons + along the Rocky Mountain National Park “highway to the sky” (below right), or biked — 22 grueling miles one blazing hot afternoon in the name of sampling nearly 50 local brews. Every night the eleven of us crowded around the patio table for truly impeccable company and killer meals — even a gluten-free Friday night pizza competition. At the end of our four days our group parted ways Saturday morning amid many hugs and promises to meet up more frequently.

RMNP split

With a painfully late red-eye on the horizon, my husband and I rented a car for the final day to explore south of Denver. We took the literally breathtaking (and mildly nauseating) guard rail-less ridge road up Mount Evans, hoofed it with new friends, dipped our fingers into ice cold glacial lakes (above left), and chanced upon a favorite brewery where we sipped sours alongside spicy elk sausage sliders in the shadows of Pikes Peak.

RMNP Milner Pass

Fall River Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, elevation 12,005 feet (snow!)

One week removed and both our holiday and family feel so far away. But we lucked out on the weather, location, everything, which made for happy souls and tired bodies. If you’ve never been, the northern Colorado Rockies, where Earth meets Heaven, will not disappoint.

Have a wonderful weekend, Everyone, and don’t forget to peek at the new links below!

Cheers, Heather
